Should I See a Therapist?
A 2‑Minute Mood Check: When to Stop Waiting and Start Talking
Sometimes, we find ourself stuck in the loop of, “Should I see a therapist?” or “Am I just in a funk?” This can be a frustrating feeling, and it can increase those feelings of anxiety and heavy sadness. If you find yourself here, you don’t need a journal or an app. Just take 120 seconds and answer these 4 quick prompts.
Set a timer for 2 minutes. Go.
1. On a scale of 1–10, how often do you feel “okay but not good”?
(1 = never, 10 = all the time)
2. When was the last time you felt genuinely excited about something?
(If the answer is “I can’t remember,” that’s data.)
3. Who knows how you’re really doing right now?
(If no one, that’s a signal – not a failure.)
4. If nothing changes in 6 months, how does that feel?
(Scary? Exhausting? Fine? Be honest.)
What to do with your answers
- If you scored 7+ on question 1 OR your answer to #4 felt heavy → stop waiting. You don’t need rock bottom.
- If you have no one*for #3 → therapy is a built‑in safe person.
- If you’re unsure → take a screenshot of your answers and revisit in 1 week.
Waiting until you’re in crisis is an option. But it’s not the only one.
At Caretta Counseling, we’re here to help you take those first steps toward a more balanced life.
