Suicide Prevention
Suicide is a major public health issue. In 2021, it was the 11th leading cause of death in the United States, with over 48,100 deaths.
Though tragic, suicide is often preventable. Recognizing warning signs and knowing how to get help can save lives.
Suicide involves self-harm with the intent to end life, resulting in death. A suicide attempt is self-harm with the intent to end life but without death. Avoid terms like “committing suicide,” “successful suicide,” or “failed suicide,” as they carry negative connotations.
