Gender-Affirming Care in Seattle & Washington State

You’ve found a safe space.

Caretta Queer Counseling provides gender-affirming therapy to trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse adults throughout Washington State.

Our therapists work with you on everything from questions of gender identity and the daily strain of gender dysphoria to the decisions that come with a social or medical transition.

Every session is virtual, so you can join from Spokane, Tacoma, Seattle, or a town with no affirming therapist for miles.

What Is Gender-Affirming Care?

Gender-affirming care is a personalized mix of medical, psychological, and social support for people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. What that includes is completely up to you. Some clients focus on social or emotional support, some are moving toward medical steps like hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or gender affirming surgery, and many find their needs change along the way.

Our therapists are part of the LGBTQIA2+ community and stay current with the standards that guide gender-affirming healthcare. You're welcome here whether you have been questioning your gender since childhood but are now acting on it, are newly curious about your gender, or have been out for years.

Why Choose Caretta Queer Counseling?

Our Seattle, WA-based practice offers gender-affirming telehealth therapy to adults throughout Washington State, from Capitol Hill to Spokane, Tacoma, and Bellevue.

We understand how difficult it can be to find a therapist who truly gets you. Therapy should be your space to heal, not hide who you are.

We work and live in Capitol Hill!

Therapists Who Center This Work

Gender-affirming therapy is a core part of our practice, and we know that no two clients are the same. We believe that having a deep understanding of the nuances of gender identity, gender expression, and transition is essential to giving you the best possible care.

For some clients, navigating the transition journey is the center of the work. For others, therapy is about how to live daily in their truth in a world that is actively unsafe and hostile toward them. Some examples of what you may work through in sessions include:

  • Working with gender dysphoria and recognizing the moments that bring relief.

  • Processing anxiety, anger, or depression from living in an unwelcoming society.

  • Talking through your gender identity and how you want to express it.

  • Daily life post-transition, from relationships to family dynamics to work.

  • Weighing whether social or medical transition fits your goals, and in what order.

  • Building practical ways to cope with rejection, misgendering, or hostility.

For clients pursuing hormone replacement therapy or gender-affirming surgery, we also write letters of support through an informed-consent model. We talk through your goals and provide the letter your medical team needs.

Real Changes Our Clients Experience

Progress looks different depending on your goals and where you are in your transition. Here are some of the changes clients experience after working with us:

  • Medical appointments feel less daunting, and they push for the care they actually want.

  • Conversations with family get more honest, even the hard ones.

  • A decision they had circled for months, like starting hormones or changing their name, finally lands.

  • Dysphoria still shows up on bad days, but it stops taking over the whole week.

Insurance

We're in-network with several major insurance plans, so many clients use their coverage for sessions. If you're not sure whether we take yours, the Fees & Insurance page has the full list.
