ADHD and Autism
You deserve support that works with your brain—not against it.
Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy
You don’t need to be fixed — you deserve to be understood.
Living as a neurodivergent adult—whether with ADHD, autism, sensory differences, or other ways of thinking—often means feeling pressured to mask or squeeze yourself into systems that weren’t built for you. Maybe you’ve been told you’re too much, too sensitive, not trying hard enough, or doing life “wrong.” That can leave you carrying shame, exhaustion, and a sense of not fully belonging.
You don’t have to change who you are to deserve care. Therapy can be a place where your brain, your needs, and your pace are honored—not pathologized.
What Therapy Can Support
Neurodivergence is a natural part of human diversity. Instead of asking you to “fit in,” therapy can help you find sustainable ways to live that work with your brain, not against it. Together, we might explore:
• Burnout and recovery from masking
• Executive functioning challenges and structure-building
• Sensory regulation and overstimulation
• Identity reclamation through unmasking safely
• Self-advocacy and boundary-setting without guilt
• Internalized ableism and self-acceptance
• Navigating relationships, parenting, and work through a neurodivergent lens
• Educational trauma and harm from systems that didn’t fit you
• How neurodivergence intersects with gender and sexuality
Some of us at Caretta Counseling are neurodivergent ourselves. We know how healing it can be to work with someone who understands both personally and clinically.
What to Expect in Therapy
We recognize that therapy doesn’t work the same for everyone. Sessions are flexible and adaptive: silence, scripting, visuals, movement, metaphor—your way of processing is welcome.
Our approach isn’t about making you more palatable to others. It’s about supporting your agency, dignity, and self-understanding. Over time, therapy can help you:
Reduce shame and increase self-compassion
Build supportive systems that reflect your needs
Heal from invalidating environments
Strengthen confidence in advocating for yourself
Feel more grounded, whole, and understood
You are not broken. You are becoming.
